Truly a moving meditation: increased self-awareness and focus are experienced. Music is often played in class to enhance flow. Modifications are given to make the practice accessible to all students.

Various hand balances, arm balances and postures that require more strength are explored. Postures often are held for longer periods of time to increase strength and concentration.

Advanced: In this class all types of postures are explored in greater depth – there is an attitude of anything goes. Postures are explored from various vantage points – holding for longer periods of time, from the requirement of greater flexibility and strength, and from the standpoint of developing more poise and ease in the face of greater difficulty, the heart of yoga practice. Must have previous yoga experience.

Yoga to Live Drumming: Try something new! Experience your yoga practice in tandom with the inspiring, rythmic sounds of live drumming. Held the last Friday of each month and followed by a potluck. A great opportunity to introduce a friend to the studio and get to know your fellow yogis!

Ashtanga Beginner Series:This 10- week series will introduce the student to the fundamental practice of Ashtanga Yoga including postures, breath, bhandas, and visual focus. The class will be made accessible to all with modifications given. After completion of this series students will feel knowledgeable and confident enough to participate in the Primary Series classes or the Vinyasa Flow classes. One class of the 10- week session will be applied to one of the Primary Series classes. This beginner series is accessible to all students regardless of experience– come and experience how the Ashtanga Series can be a fun and exciting practice. Must pre-register. Cost: $125 for10-week session.

Ashtanga Primary Series:Ashtanga is a dynamic and challenging style of hatha yoga based on a set sequence of postures. The practice combines the breath, alignment, visual gaze, and sequencing of postures to create a balanced yet demanding practice that after the sequence is learned truly becomes a moving meditation. The primary series, or Yoga Chikitsa, is designed to build stamina, strength, to detoxify the body and to realign the body, in particular the spine. Even though Ashtanga is considered demanding, poses can be modified to make the practice fun and accessible to anyone willing to put forth the effort and commitment to the practice. All classes are ongoing and open to students that have completed the Ashtanga Beginners Series or preferably have some previous yoga experience.

Introduction to Hatha Yoga:This class will introduce students to basic postures and alignment as well as various breathing practices in yoga. Students will be learning associated anatomical movements and will better understand their own bodies, including their own strengths, weaknesses, and limitations. Students will gain knowledge and confidence to participate in a variety of yoga styles. Must pre-register. Cost: $75 for 6-week session.
Hatha:Even though the term Hatha Yoga is inclusive of all the physical styles of yoga, Hatha classes typically concentrate less on flowing movement and more on precise alignment. Students experience a range of both standing and seated postures and classes are not based on any given sequence of postures, tending to vary from class to class. They are more moderate in intensity and modifications are given to make postures accessible to all. Classes are on going and open to all students.

Anusara Inspired: Anusara Yoga is an integrated system of Hatha yoga developed by John Friend. It is inclusive of universal principles of alignment and energetic action as well as a celebration of life. The literal translation of anusara is “flowing with grace”. This class will explore the three elements of yoga practice – attitude, alignment, and action. These elements will be looked at in all aspects of yoga postures. It is preferable to have had some yoga experience.

Pranayama/Yin: A soothing and meditative practice beneficial for stimulating the flow of chi (energy), reducing stress, recovering from injury or illness, or deepening your current yoga practice. Postures are held for 3-5 minutes with muscles relaxed in order to work connective tissue. This style of practice will help you to release emotional stagnation in the body as well as prepare you for meditation. Some restorative postures may be explored. Yoga breathing techniques will be introduced and practiced. Philosophical readings may be part of class. Appropriate for all students regardless of experience.

Mindfulness Meditation: In mindfulness meditation every aspect of experience is welcomed and appreciated, whether we are working, exercising, or enjoying a meal. However, this at times seems to be an impossibility due to the “distractions” of daily life. We them might “medicate” the problem with numerous distractions. In this class the groundwork will be established to help us to re-establish our connection with life experiences, finding enhanced peace, joy, and wisdom in our lives. The class will include meditation instruction, awareness training, dharma wisdom teachings, inquiry work and discussions/explorations. Participants must have had mindfulness meditation exposure, having completed at least the 4 week introductory course or afternoon workshop.

Philosophy Sunday: These will be held for 6 consecutive months - the last Sunday of the month at 6:30 pm. Our format will be a series of DVD's that discuss the history of yoga from the beginning - there will be discussion afterward. These sessions are free and open to all. The first session will be April 30th entitled "History and Overview of Yoga/The Secret Teachings of the Upanishads".

Family Yoga:  Back in the Fall! for children ages 5-10 accompanied by a parent(s) or guardian. At 2:30 - 3:30 pm there will be a class for ages 10 and up not accompanied by a parent or guardian. These classes will be taught by Anne Comarda who has a wonderful yoga practice and experience working with all ages of children. She has been teaching yoga to children in Upper Arlington and we are pleased to have her here. These classes will go for 6 week sessions - $75 per family per session. If a class is missed, a credit for one class will be issued for another session.

Lunch Time Yoga: Need a yoga break in the middle of your day? Come and join us for this fun and relaxing lunch time class. Open to students of all levels.

PILATES
With a strong focus on breath, Pilates cultivates a practice around building deep core strength. Progressing from fundamental principles that allow students to focus on specific muscular engagement, this class will proceed to the beginner/intermediate mat sequence of exercises. Overall principles of body alignment and flexibility will be highlighted in this course. Practicing Pilates is a great opportunity to decrease lower back pain, build a strong posture and increase hamstring and inner thigh engagement and strength. It is also a great complement to a yoga practice. All levels are welcome.

Kundalini Yoga: Instructor: Rhonda Austin
Kundalini is a powerful energy that lies within us all, at the base of the spine. Kundalini yoga, the yoga of awareness, helps you unlock this energy, strengthen your body, still your mind and set your spirit free. It is an ancient, scientific system that uses exercises, breathing, mudras and sound. It gives you a deep inner calm and the strength and grace for meeting the daily challenges in your life. The class teaches you how to create a solid foundation in your life through the movement of yoga, the stillness of the breath, and the vibration of the naad, or sound current. After an energetic yoga set, you will utilize mantra and/or meditation to neutralize tension, open your heart and connect you to your own infinity. Anyone is welcome, even if you are new to yoga and have never experienced it before.

Yoga Groove Instructor: Kathy
A vigorous and heated practice based on creative and playful movement. Poses are linked to the sound of ethnic and tribal music with the hope that students will learn to dance within their hearts. This class is for experienced students that have a regular yoga practice, but want to take it to a higher level of joyful consciousness.

Mysore
Students can come at any time during class to practice independently in the presence of a certified instructor. Hands-on adjustments will be given and/or assistance for special needs or requests. Think of the session as your chance to improvise and explore; you do not necessarily need to practice Ashtanga-based yoga. This is the typical style of practice common in Mysore, India.

Ashtanga Modified Second Series
While the primary series of the Ashtanga system has a focus on forward bends, the second series focuses on the central nervous system and backbends. In this class, students have the opportunity to begin exploring the second series in depth. Modifications will be given as needed. This class is geared towards students with experience in Asthanga; familiarity with the primary series is preferable.

Introduction to Hatha Yoga
This class will introduce students to basic postures and alignment as well as various breathing practices in yoga. Students will be learning associated anatomical movements and will better understand their own bodies, including their own strengths, weaknesses, and limitations. Students will gain knowledge and confidence to participate in a variety of yoga styles. Must pre-register. Cost: $75 for 6-week session.

Intro to Ashtanga
The Ashtanga yoga system can appear daunting at first. Each series in Ashtanga has a focus that's designed to take the student deeper into the practice. The postures in later series aren't necessarily more challenging than ones in the primary series, they simply have a different focus. This 10-week workshop is designed to demystify Ashtanga by introducing the postures, bhandas and breathing techniques that make this physical style of yoga so exciting. After completion of this workshop, students will feel knowledgeable and confident enough to participate in any of the Primary Series or Vinyasa Flow classes. One class of the 10- week session will be applied to one of the Primary Series classes. Open to students of all levels. Must pre-register. Cost: $125 for 10-week session.

Kids Yoga (ages 7-12)
This 6-week series will be a fun, creative approach to the practice of yoga using animated postures, simple breathing techniques, and interactive games. In addition to the physical benefits such as increased strength, flexibility, and balance, kids will learn ways to focus, relax, and develop self-control using breathing and visualization. Cost: $60 per child for 6 week session (parents welcome, but not required to attend class). Must pre-register.

Yoga for Teens
This 6-week series will be an introduction to yoga for teens. We will explore fun postures, breathing techniques and meditation. Learn to move with your breath and increase strength, flexibility and balance. This class will also focus on increasing body awareness and developing healthy concepts of body image. Cost: $60 per youth for 6 week session (parents welcome, but not required to attend class). Must pre-register.
