Art Gallery at Balanced Yoga

New Show with Kevin Comarda

Balanced Yoga supports local artists by providing a gallery space with a relaxed atmosphere where artists who have not previously shown their work, or who are looking for an alternative to the traditional gallery scene, can show their art. The yoga studio supports a creative community and open environment where artists get positive feedback about their work on display.

Kevin Comarda
"While just recently discovering digital media (and all of it's convenience), I still can't help love the texture of paper and glue...

I have always been a fan of illustration within design. But due to color blindness, my early artistic ambitions and confidence took a shattering blow. After many longwinded arguments with myself, I decided to focus on my strengths within an artistic composition, rather than my weakness. Texture, direction, and shape (and the relationships between those shapes), became a crucial starting point, so much so, that color ceased to become a weakness and more of something unique – almost a game – that I have come to embrace.

The next step was to go on a magazine-collecting spree. In orer to learn more about my newly discovered palette, and how it acted, I covered everything from kitchen walls and coffee tables to hand–made books and cards. Then I became more selective about which magazines and pictures I would be using (for example, people are never the "direct" focus of a piece.)

There is usually a mechanical element as well as an organic element that comes along with each piece. Lately, the goal is to create a bold image that jumps out and is almost immediately recognizable...
...But as one becomes more engaged with the picture, they realize that the smaller components making it up, are actually telling a story."
